David Feifel

Founder and Medical Director of Kadima

Dr. David Feifel earned a Bachelor of Science, Master’s Degree, M.D and a Ph.D. (Neurobiology) from the University of Toronto, Canada. After completing an internship in Internal Medicine, Dr. Feifel completed a Psychiatry residency at the University of California, San Diego, serving as outpatient Chief Resident in his final year.

He was then recruited to join UCSD’s School of Medicine as a faculty member and rose to rank of full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and in the Neuroscience graduate program.

At UCSD Dr. Feifel was Director of the Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Program, was the founder and Director of the UCSD Adult ADHD program, and created the Department of Psychiatry’s Center for Advanced Treatment where he introduced several novel treatments such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Ketamine Therapy. He was one of the first providers in the country to utilize these treatments.

At UCSD, Dr. Feifel also regularly taught medical students, residents and postdoctoral fellows and headed a translational research program focused on developing new treatments for psychiatric disorders. He has authored or co-authored over 130 scientific, peer-reviewed papers on topics related treating mental illness including papers on TMS and ketamine.

In 2017, he established Kadima Neuropsychiatry Institute in order to more effectively pursue his passion for developing and utilizing cutting edge, non-invasive treatments for neuropsychiatric disorders. Dr. Feifel maintains an active appointment as Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry, within UCSD’s School of Medicine

Among his distinctions, Dr. Feifel is an elected member of the American College of Neuropharmacology, he has been elected by his peers for inclusion in ‘Best Doctors in America’, and he is cited in the Castle Connolly list of “Top Doctors:” a distinction bestowed on only 10 psychiatrists in San Diego. Dr. Feifel sits on the Board of the Clinical TMS Society and has co-chaired its clinical standards committee.

In addition to being a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in General Psychiatry, he is also certified in the sub-specialties Psychosomatic Medicine, and holds certification from the United Council of Neurological subspecialties in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry, a certification only held by only three physicians in San Diego.
